Hi, my name is Michael Daniels and I live in Essex, England, UK. My site contains information on my rare hairless dogs called Neo & Trinity. The are American Hairless Terriers: dogs perfectly suited to be a pet for allergy sufferers.

I myself have allergy problems, including asthma, eczema and pet allergies. The main reactions I have, or indeed any allergy sufferer, to a dog is the dander, etc trapped in it's coat. My American Hairless Terriers have been the answer to both my allergy problems and my desire to be a dog owner.

The breed origins can be traced back to 1972, in Louisiana, USA, when a litter of coated Rat Terriers contained a single female hairless puppy. She turned out to be the "perfect" pet as she was highly intelligent, active, loyal, and best of all she was clean. Being hairless, there were no fleas, therefore no need for smelly flea products, and no dog hairs all over the furniture and floors, not to mention the allergy benefits. The hairless trait that this dog exhibited would be the basis for a new breed. The American Hairless Terrier is now a recognised strain of Rat Terrier in the USA. Here in the UK it is still unrecognised as Neo & Trinity are the only ones!

Hairless dog breeds have actually existed all over the world for thousands of years, although it is still speculation as to why a hairless breed would have evolved. Perhaps having hair once caused these dogs health problems. Without fur to harbour pests etc. a hairless dog would have been much better off.

My American Hairless Terriers do require extra care and attention compared to a coated dog, but the rewards far outweigh the efforts. The American Hairless Terrieror AHT was formerly a variant type of Rat Terrier. As of January 1, 2004 the American Hairless Terrier has been deemed a separate terrier breed.

Rat Terrier | The Rat Terrier is an American breed of dog, one of many terrier varieties. It is a small, active terrier and has been around in similar form since the early 1900s, it has remained more of a type than a breed. It was a common farm dog in the 1950s and 1960s and originated from crosses among Manchester Terriers, Smooth Fox Terriers, Beagles, and possibly Greyhounds and other breeds.
